European Day of Languages
AHS celebrated European Day of Languages (26th September) with all of the French classes in S1-S3 and some Senior pupils practising and recording in Basque. Basque is the oldest living language in Europe.
The project was much enjoyed by all who sang and or listened.
28 September 20222022 Sponsored Walk
Big well done to everyone who took part yesterday in our Sponsored Walk in aid of trip funds including the minibus running.
The weather was kind to us (mostly) and although a few were struggling with sore feet and legs, everyone who set off finished the walk which is an amazing effort.
It's great to have a whole school event so well supported and enjoyed by everyone.
Sponsor Money raised can can be paid in cash or directly to the School Fund account and we will update you with a total after the holidays.

S6 Litter Pick
Big thanks to our S6 team who went off on a litter picking exercise around the school and nearby areas on Friday.
This is something we do with pupils from time to time as a contribution to the community effort.

Big well done to the S1 boys who worked hard last night. After a shaky start they showed guts and determination and worked for each other:
Ard 1 Glenurquhart 1
Ard 3 Mallaig 1
Ard 3 Kinlochleven 0
This put us joint top with Glenurquhart with equal points and equal goal difference. We then beat them in a penalty shoot out to finish top and qualify for the finals in 1st place.

Congratulations to Joseph Tait (Vice-Captain – S6) who is Ardnamurchan High School’s recipient of the Lochaber Housing award for Academic achievement in 2021-22. Joseph has demonstrated excellent diligence, hard work and achievement during his studies, culminating in best grades in year for his 5 Highers.

Felt Making Workshop
The senior art pupils at Ardnamurchan High School really enjoyed their recent felt making workshop at the Ariundle Centre.They all enjoyed picking out colours for their designs from Ruth's inspiring collection of wool blends. They were then shown how to use the nuno felted technique to make a wet felted scarf. After a considerable amount of elbow grease and some wrinkly fingers, they hung their beautiful creations up to dry. Many thanks to all the staff at the Centre who made it such a fun day.

Death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
It has been announced by Buckingham Palace that Her Majesty The Queen has died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The Convener of The Highland Council, Councillor Bill Lobban
expressed his deepest sympathies to The Royal Family, he said:
“On behalf of The Highland Council and communities of the Highlands, we join the nation in mourning for Her Majesty The Queen. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all members of The Royal Family and Household and honour Her Majesty The Queen’s long service and duty to the country.”
The Highland Council will observe a 1 minute silence as a mark of respect for Her Majesty The Queen, tomorrow, 9 September 2022 at 11am.
08 September 2022Kakatsitsi Drummers
On Thursday 8th September, the pupils of Ardnamurchan High School, Strontian Primary School and Strontian nursery were treated to a morning’s entertainment from the Kakatsitsi Drummers who were in the area ahead of their concert on the 9th of September in the Nevis Centre. Session followed for individual groups and the whole campus enjoyed the day's events.

SCHOLAR provides a range of National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher online courses and support materials for young people in subscribing local authorities across Scotland.
The webinar will take place in MS Teams and will provide an overview for parents and carers of:
the key features of the courses;
how your child can access their account and courses; and
how they can make the most of SCHOLAR to support their learning and revision.

Congratulations to Miguel Reis-Forester who won a Bronze medal at the UK Championships in Sheffield, competing against gymnasts from all over the UK. This is an amazing result for our S1 pupil.
05 September 2022Volunteering Award
Congratulations to My Carmichael who was awarded her Blue Hoody for her commitment to volunteering with High Life Highland.
Over the past few years she coached Shinty, ran an exercise club and is leading PE lessons for Strontian Primary School & Nursery, coached for Ardnamurchan Camanachd, supported Ardnamurchan Active Schools in sessions alongside running a lunchtime Yoga club at Ardnamurchan High School and is in the process of organising a hill race in Strontian - she just about manages to fit some schooling and playing shinty in between times!!
Furthermore Mya has successfully completed her Level 4 Choose to Lead course and is currently working towards her Level 5.
Well done Mya and keep up the good work

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Event in Fort William Monday 29th August 2022
Lochaber High School hosted a DYW event where employers from lots of sectors were present and engaged with young people from Lochaber Schools on future careers. Our SDS Officer was also present to guide the 14 senior pupils who had expressed an interest in attending.
Comments form pupils from the day were:
"I got so so much information today I'm not sure what to choose"
"It was really useful and we got loads of information"
"Really worth coming"
So a very positive day out for our young people and thanks to those involved in organising the day!

Well done to all our pupils who entered the National Gaelic story writing competition this year. They all received a certificate and Alasdair in S2 won the 3rd prize of a £20 gift voucher !
